Changing Google Account settings

Your home and work locations are synced with the Google Maps settings on your mobile device. However, you can manually set these addresses.

Change your home and work locations

– Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device.

– Open the Google Home app Google Home app.

– In the top left corner of the app’s Home screen, tap Menu Menu.

– Verify that the Google Account listed is the one linked to Google Home.  To switch accounts, click the triangle next to the account name.

– Tap More settings and then Personal info and then Home and work locations.

– Type your home & work addresses.

– To edit a home or work address, tap the current address and then type a new address and then tap OK.

– To remove a home or work address, tap the X next to the address.

Change your nickname

By default your nickname is the first name associated with your Google Account. However you can set a different nickname and teach the Google Assistant the correct pronunciation.

– Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device.

– Open the Google Home app Google Home app.

– In the top left corner of the app’sHome screen, tap Menu Menu.

– Verify that the Google Account listed is the one linked to Google Home. To switch accounts, click the triangle next to the account name and email address.

– Tap More settings and then Personal Info and then Nickname.

– To check the pronunciation, choose one of three options:

Use default: Tap the radio button next to “Use default”. To hear pronunciation, tap Play. If it’s incorrect, try spelling it out or recording your own.

Spell it out: Tap the radio button next to “Spell it out” and then type your name and then Play. Tip: Use latin characters to spell out the pronunciation. For example, Eva can be spelled as Ayva. 

Record your own: Tap the radio button next to “Record your own” and then Record and then say your name. To hear the pronunciation, tap Play. To record again, tap Record again. 

Choose a weather unit

You can change your weather unit to Fahrenheit or Celsius.

– Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device.

– Open the Google Home app Google Home app.

– In the top left corner of the app’s Home screen, tap Menu Menu.

– Verify that the Google Account listed is the one linked to Google Home. To switch accounts, click the triangle next to the account name and email address.

– Tap More settings and then Preferences and then Weather.

– Choose a weather unit.

Change the voice of your Google Assistant

You can change the sound of your Google Assistant’s voice. Changing the voice setting will apply to all of your Google Assistant devices.

– Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device.

– Open the Google Home app Google Home app.

– In the top left corner of the app’s Home screen, tap Menu Menu.

– Verify that the Google Account that is listed is the one linked to Google Home. To switch accounts, click the triangle next to the account name and email address.

– Tap More settings  and thenPreferences and then Assistant Voice. 

– Choose a voice.

Set your payment and delivery info

You can set your payment information and delivery address for packages, groceries, and other items you purchase using your Google Assistant.

Note: These payment settings apply to all of your Google Assistant devices.

Set your payment and delivery info:
– Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
– In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu Menu.
– Verify that the Google Account that is listed is the one linked to Google Home. To switch accounts, tap the triangle next to the account name.
– Tap More settings.
– Under “Account,”  tap Payments and thenGET STARTED.
– Read the Terms of Service. Scroll down and tap ACCEPT. 
Choose your default payment method:
– If you have already added a payment method for another Google service, for example Google Play, you can choose that payment method. Tap NEXT.
– If you need to add a payment method, tap Add credit or debit card.
– Enter the card information, billing name, billing street address, and phone number. Review the card details and tap SAVE.  ​
– This new payment method is now selected as your default payment method. Tap NEXT. 
Choose your delivery address:
– If you have already added a delivery address for another Google service, you can choose that delivery address. Tap NEXT.
– If you need to add an address, tap Add new address. 
– ​Enter name, delivery address, and phone number. Tap SAVE.  ​
Select which Google Home(s) can make payments: 
Note: This screen only appears if you have successfully set up Google Home(s):
– You’ll see a list of all Google Homes that are successfully set up.
– Next to each Google Home, you’ll see a toggle that controls the Personal results for that particular device. Remember, Personal results controls whether a specific Google Home can use your personal information, including payments and other things like email, calendar, and flights.
– To allow Google Home to use your personal information, slide the slider next to that device to the right On. Tap DONE. 
– To prevent Google Home from using your personal information, slide the slider next to that device to the left Off . Tap DONE.
Important:  If you turn off Personal results because you don’t want your Assistant to help with payments, it won’t be able to help with other personal information like flights, shopping lists, calendars, etc. However, if you turn OFF payments and keep Personal results ON, your Assistant can still help other personal information, like calendar and flight info.

Change security settings

Step 1: Choose if you want to approve purchases

– Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device.

– Open the Google Home app Google Home app.

– In the top left corner of the app’s Home screen, tap Menu Menu.

– Verify that the Google Account listed is the one linked to Google Home. To switch accounts, click the triangle next to the account name and email address.

– Tap More settings and then Payments and then Purchase approvals. 

– Choose Always require confirmation or Don’t require confirmation.

Step 2: Choose if you want to use your fingerprint

You can approve each purchase using your fingerprint. If you don’t use your fingerprint, you’ll be asked to approve purchases by entering your Google Account password.

– Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device.

– Open the Google Home app Google Home app.

– In the top left corner of the app’s Home screen, tap Menu Menu.

– Verify that the Google Account listed is the one linked to Google Home. To switch accounts, click the triangle next to the account name and email address.

– Tap More settings and then Payments and then Purchase approvals. 

– Choose Always require confirmation or Don’t require confirmation.

– Turn Use fingerprint to confirm on or off.

Change your payment or delivery info

– Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device.

– Open the Google Home app Google Home app.

– In the top left corner of the app’s Home screen, tap Menu Menu.

– Verify that the Google Account listed is the one linked to Google Home. To switch accounts, click the triangle next to the account name and email address.

– Tap More settings and then Payments.

From here you can either:

– Tap Payment method, then choose or add a card.

– Tap Delivery address, then choose or add an address.

Turn payments on or off

– Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device.

– Open the Google Home app Google Home app.

– In the top left corner of the app’s Home screen, tap Menu Menu.

– Verify that the Google Account listed is the one linked to Google Home. To switch accounts, click the triangle next to the account name and email address.

– Tap More settings and then Payments

– Turn Pay with your Assistant on or off.

Unlink a Google Account from Google Home when phone/tablet is on same network as Google Home

Here’s how to unlink a Google Account from a Google Home device when your phone or tablet is on the same network as the Google Home device.

– Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device.

– Open the Google Home app Google Home app.

– In the top right corner of the app’s Home screen, tap Devices Devices .

– Scroll to find the device card for the Google Home device.

– In the top right corner of the device card, tap the device card menu More menuand thenSettings.

– Underneath “Linked accounts(s)”, you’ll see the Google Account used to set up this specific Google Home device.

– Tap Linked account(s) and then the X next to the account to unlink.

– Tap Unlink to remove this specific Google Home device from that Google Account.

Unlink a Google Account from Google Home and link a new Google Account

You can unlink a Google Account from a Google Home device and link a new Google Account.

Step 1. Unlink your Google Account from the Google Home device

– Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device.

– Open the Google Home app .

– In the top right corner of the app’s Home screen, tap Devices .

– Scroll to find the device card for the Google Home device.

– In the top right corner of the device card, tap the device card menu Settings  Linked account(s)   Xnext to the Google Account.

– Tap Unlink to remove your Google Account from Google Home.

Step 2. Relink your Google Account to the Google Home device

– Tap the blue banner  Sign in required  complete the sign in steps.

– If you don’t see the blue banner, tap Back . If you still don’t see the blue banner,

– Force quit the Google Home app.

– Open the Google Home app .

– In the top right corner of the app’s Home screen, tap Devices .

– Scroll to find the device card for the Google Home device.

– In the top right corner of the device card, tap the device card menu Settings   blue banner at top  Sign in  complete the sign in steps.

See all devices linked to a Google Account

You can see all Google Home devices linked to a Google Account.

– Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device.

– Open the Google Home app Google Home app.

– In the top right corner of the app’s Home screen, tap Devices Devices.

– Scroll to the bottom.

– Tap Linked Devices. 

– You’ll see a list of devices linked to your Google Account.

Unlink a device

Tap the X and then Unlink to remove the device.

Link an additional Google Account to a Google Home device

– Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device.

– Open the Google Home app Google Home app.

– In the top left corner of the app’s Home screen, tap Menu Menu

Tap the down arrow next to Google Account that’s currently logged in.

– If the account you want to link is listed in the dropdown menu, select it.

– If you want to link a new Google Account, go to the next step.

Tap Manage accounts and then Add account. 

– Select Google from the list of available providers.

– Enter your login credentials.

– This account is now linked to the Google Home app.

Receive emails for your devices and the Google Assistant

To manage email settings:

– Open the Google Home app Google Home app.

– In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu Menuand then Account preferences and then Email notifications.

– Confirm the email address listed is the one you want to receive emails.

– Slide the slider on On to receive emails for Google Home, Chromecast, your Google Assistant, or the Preview program.

You can opt out of email notifications by sliding to slider off Off or clicking on the “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of any email you receive.
