Connecting speakers to Connect:Amp

<= Back

This article covers the setup and requirements of attaching speakers to a CONNECT:AMP. You can wire 2 or 4 speakers to a single CONNECT:AMP. The CONNECT:AMP can support between 4 and 16 ohm loads, so if you’re wiring four speakers, they must be wired in parallel and the attached speakers must be 8 ohms.

If your speaker wire uses banana connectors, you can remove the end caps from the speaker posts on the back of the CONNECT:AMP and insert the plugs directly into the banana jacks.

Choosing a speaker wire gauge:

We recommend using a speaker wire between 12 and 16 gauge. Refer to the table below for details on recommended speaker wire depending on the distance.

Runs over 300 feet (92m) is not recommended

The watts per channel is variable based on the volume setting on the CONNECT:AMP. The below table describes how many watts per channel your speakers are receiving based on your speaker configuration at full volume.

Attaching 2 speakers to the CONNECT:AMP

Traditionally, most bookshelf speakers are 8 ohms, though a pair of 6 or 4 ohm speakers will also work with the CONNECT:AMP.

Attaching the speaker wire to the CONNECT:AMP:

– Use your thumb or finger to firmly push the spring-loaded speaker connector post inward to reveal the connection hole.

– Insert the stripped end of the speaker wire into the hole, and then release. The stripped portion should be caught firmly in the connector post.

Please Note: Wattage is not a direct indicator of audio quality but represents required wattage for attached speakers

Attaching 4 speakers to the CONNECT:AMP

The CONNECT:AMP is only able to play one source of music at a time. If you’re using 4 speakers and they are in different rooms, then all rooms will play the same music. However, you can install an impedance matching speaker selector switch to toggle one pair of the speakers off and leave just one pair playing.

To attach 4 speakers to a single CONNECT:AMP, the speaker impedance must be 8 ohms. Anything outside of that may damage the CONNECT:AMP and speakers.

– You will be fitting two wires into each of the speaker terminals in a four speaker configuration. As long as the speaker wire fits completely through the terminal hole, it does not matter whether you go through the top of the bottom of the post.

Sonos does not recommend ever wiring your speakers in series as it will result in poor sound quality. Refer to the image below to see an example of parallel wiring.
