Setting up a new TV or Cable remote with home theater speakers

<= Back

During the initial setup of your Sonos Playbar, Playbase or Beam, the Sonos app guided you through configuring your TV remote to control the volume of the home theater speaker. If you did not configure a remote at the time, or you’d like to use a different remote with your home theater speaker, follow the steps in this article.

Note: Only one remote can be programmed to control the Sonos home theater speaker at a time.

Sonos app for iOS or Android:

– Open the Sonos app. From the More tab, tap Settings > Room Settings.

– Select the room your Playbar, Playbase, or Beam is located in.

– Tap TV and then Remote Control Setup.

– Follow the in-app instructions to configure your new remote to control the home theater speaker.

If you are using a computer to control Sonos, it’s best to be in the same room as the TV when going through the remote programming steps as you will need to confirm a few prompts during setup.

Sonos app for Mac:

– Select Sonos > Preferences.

– Click Room Settings and choose the room your Playbar, Playbase, or Beam is located in from the drop-down.

– Click the TV tab.

– Click Remote Control Setup.

– Follow the in-app instructions to configure your new remote to control the home theater speaker.

Sonos app for PC:

– Select Manage > Settings.

– Click Room Settings and choose the room your Playbar, Playbase, or Beam is located in from the drop-down.

– Click the TV tab.

– Click Remote Control Setup.

– Follow the in-app instructions to configure your new remote to control the home theater speaker.

If a message appears on the television whenever you adjust the volume, or if your cable remote does not control the volume properly, please see Eliminating annoying messages on your TV when using a remote (in English) to resolve this.
